What is an ankle sprain?

A sprained ankle is a common injury that occurs when you roll, twist or turn your ankle in an awkward way. Treatment for a sprained ankle depends on the severity of the injury but Naturcel offers some pain relief & recovery products that can help to alleviate symptoms.

Causes

Sprained and swollen ankles can happen when your ankle is forced to move in a direction that isn’t normal causing your ankle’s ligaments to partially tear or stretch.

Sprained Ankle Treatment

If you have a sprained ankle, it’s generally recommended to follow the R.I.C.E. method (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) for initial treatment. However, you may consider incorporating Naturcel’s products into your overall recovery plan in consultation with a healthcare professional.

Here are some general suggestions for managing a sprained ankle:

  1. Rest: Avoid putting weight on the injured ankle and allow it to rest. Use crutches if necessary.
  2. Ice: Apply a cold pack or ice wrapped in a towel to the affected area for about 15-20 minutes every 2-3 hours. This can help reduce swelling and relieve pain.
  3. Compression: Use an elastic bandage or compression wrap to provide support and help reduce swelling.
  4. Elevation: Elevate your leg and ankle above heart level whenever possible to help reduce swelling.
